Regular vs Extended license, explained: which one do you need?
Both licenses cover one end product. The difference is whether you charge end users for it. Here is what each allows, what neither allows, and how to choose, with common situations worked through.
Every paid listing on CodeMercio has two prices: a regular license and an extended license. People often assume the extended license means "more sites" or "more features". It does not. This guide explains the actual difference, using the wording of the licenses page, and works through the situations buyers ask about most.
The short version
- A regular license covers one end product that you or one client use.
- An extended license covers one end product that you charge end users for.
- Neither lets you resell, share or relist the original files.
- One license is one end product. A second product needs a second license.
An "end product" is the single finished website, application, game server, hosted service, theme or other deliverable in which you use the item.

What each license allows
| Topic | Regular | Extended |
|---|---|---|
| End products | One | One |
| Free for you or one client | Yes | Yes |
| You charge end users for the product | No | Yes |
| Development, staging and test copies of that product | Yes | Yes |
| Resell or relist the original files | No | No |
| Updates from the author | Yes | Yes |
| Author support, as described on the listing | Yes | Yes |
Both are non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide and perpetual, and both are for the person or company named on the order.
Which one do you need?
| Your situation | Likely license | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You build a site for your own business and do not charge visitors | Regular | One end product, used by you |
| You build one website for one client and hand it over | Regular | One end product delivered to one client. Keep proof of purchase |
| You build the same site for a second client | A second license | One license is one end product |
| You run a membership site or hosted service and charge users | Extended | You charge end users for the product |
| You use the item inside a theme or template that you sell to many customers | Extended | The item is part of a product you sell, and must add real value beyond the item itself |
| You want to put the downloaded files in your own marketplace or bundle | Not allowed | Neither license lets you resell or relist the original files |
| You want a development copy and a staging copy of your own site | Covered | Test and staging copies of the same end product are included |
A server list as an example
Suppose you buy a server list script such as Minelist and launch one list at one domain.
- If you run it as a free list, or you sell nothing to anyone and simply use it for yourself, a regular license fits.
- If you plan to charge server owners for featured placement or subscriptions, you are charging users of your product. Read the licenses page carefully, and if your case sounds like "a product I charge end users for", the extended license is the safer reading. When in doubt, ask before you buy.
- If you want to run a second list for a different game, that is a second end product and needs a second license.
The same applies to a static template such as the Minecraft Java Community Portal: one regular license for one end-product site, and a second license for a second client's site.
What neither license allows
- Redistributing, sharing or relisting the item, or a lightly changed copy, anywhere: this marketplace, other marketplaces, repositories, forums, Discord servers or file-sharing sites, free or paid.
- Sharing your download or any license key with someone who has not bought a license.
- Using the item as the main value of a competing template, script or marketplace product, or offering it in a bundle or "starter pack".
- Training or building a dataset, model or tool to copy or re-create the item for others.
- Removing the author's copyright notice where the author has kept one in the source.
- Using the item in unlawful products, or implying that the author or CodeMercio endorses you.
Many items are delivered as readable source code without copy protection. That makes them easier to use and change. It also means the license is based on trust: not enforcing a restriction technically does not make it allowed.
Editing the code
You may edit the code to fit your project. Those edits are for that project and do not create a new product you may resell. If you change the code heavily, you still cannot sell the result as a stand-alone script.
Updates and support
A license includes the updates the author publishes for the version line you bought, for as long as the author keeps the listing current. Support is provided by the author for the period on the listing; the default is 6 months from the date of purchase. The support policy explains what support covers and what it does not. Neither license includes installation on your server, unless you bought an installation add-on.
What the two prices look like on a listing
Every paid listing shows both prices, and the author sets them. On some listings the two are the same; on others the extended price is higher. Compare them on the listing page rather than assuming, and read what the listing says it covers. If a listing's description seems to describe the licenses differently from the licenses page, ask before you buy through the contact form, naming the item.
If you buy the wrong one
If you realise you need an extended license after you bought a regular one, do not carry on using the item as if you had it. Write to us through the contact form with the order number and the item, and we will tell you what the options are. If you want rights that neither license gives, such as reselling the files, ask the author for a custom license.
Ending a license
A license ends if the order is refunded or charged back, or if you seriously or repeatedly break it. When it ends you must stop using the item and delete your copies. Our refund policy explains when refunds are possible.
Frequently asked questions
Does the extended license give me more sites?
No. Both licenses cover one end product. The extended license is for a product you charge end users for.
Can I use one license for my development and live site?
Yes. Development, staging and test copies of the same end product are included.
Can I sell a website I built with a script?
You can deliver a website to a client under a regular license, as long as the client uses it as one end product and you do not reuse the item for other clients. You cannot sell the original files.
Do I need a license for each client?
Yes, one per end product.
What if the listing is open source?
The open-source license named on the listing applies in addition, and where it gives you more rights it prevails for that item. Read it.
Where can I find proof of purchase?
Your account has a license certificate for each item, showing the order number, the license type and the date. Keep it.
